REFLECTION3

Furloughed AGAIN. Lost count of how many times that is – three, maybe four. Still, gives me more breathing space, less anxiety and time to stick everything on eBay and continue with the ‘master plan’.

Musically, nothing’s been happening. Still find Reason bloody annoying with timings and shit, but maybe if I was the kind of person who paid attention to manuals and forums and stuff, I wouldn’t be in such a predicament.

My 2011 MacBook Pro died with a month left on the 2-year warranty that CEX gave me. Obviously they couldn’t repair the old one but came up trumps with a 2012 model which is a billion times faster and will cater for all my daily needs quite admirably. Had to bung an SSD in it and some more RAM, and even though it’s nine years old now (and somehow not quite vintage or obsolete according to Apple), it’s the newest Mac I’ve ever owned! We just came back from a few days away in Kent where I found a small indie Apple store, and in the window was the most amazing array of vintage Apple items you could ever wish to find (see below).

Window of the iT Store, Canterbury

The image really doesn’t do it justice. Mac Classics, iPods, the G4 Cube, iMac – hell, even a couple of original iPhones. I was too scared and too sad to go in and inquire. I’m pretty sure none of this stuff was for sale, and a mad trawl through their website seemed to confirm my suspicions. Damn, I really wanted one of those iPhones!

The getaway was very nice. A bittersweet return to the place I was born and spent nearly half my life. The astonishing thing is that very little has changed. A few more closed shops, granted, and a lot of rough sleepers, and there were one or two improvements, but everything was as I remember it. Had some nice food and beach walks, and came home with some nice memories and a nasty sunburn.

I guess I’d better get back to eBay now, although I do need to pop out and get water as the store where we get our food delivered from decided not to send any. I mean, it’s only gonna be 30C today, so we may need a drop or two.

Take care of yourselves. It’s nice to be back ….

Apple iPhone 5S Unboxing Photos

As you know, I find nothing finer than unboxing a new piece of tech, and I’m always more than thrilled to share the unboxing photos with you.  Today we have an iPhone 5S – nothing fancy – just a replacement for my 5C which had been playing up.  The card box replaces the flimsy plastic effort that housed the 5C, and comes complete with inner plastic tray, leaflet envelope which also houses the SIM removal tool and accompanying Apple stickers!  Don’t forget you can click on the pictures for better quality images.

It’s always nice to get a new device, so that quality unboxing photos can be made available.

Apple Event, 10 September

Remember that there will be LIVE blogging from 6pm tonight, right here!  There’s no glitz or glamour, just the facts.  And a few photos now and again.  You will need to do a fair bit of refreshing, though – the liveblogging software I used to use crashed all the time because of the weight of visitors.

Be here at six.  Bring beer.  And pork rinds.

Oh, and here’s that ‘leaked’ picture of the leaflet that accompanies the iPhone 5S.  It shows the Fingerprint ID thing on the Home Button.

Apple iPhone 5S Graphite Model?

A load of “leaked” pictures show a new graphite coloured iPhone 5S shell.

So the phone could now be available in four colour options – the current black and white models, plus the rumoured gold edition, and now this graphite one.

The rear shell has the cutout for the double flash array, and the antenna band colour matches that of the anodized aluminium backplate.

The other big rumour about the 5S this weekend is that the device could be 64-bit, courtesy of a new Apple A7 chip.  A source said that the A7 runs 31% faster than its predecessor, due to it being of 64-bit architecture.  Some have said this is probably a lie, because Apple wouldn’t have had time to work on a 64-bit chip.  “It may happen”, they say, “but not by September 10th!” (the date of the next Apple keynote, where the new phone(s) are likely to be introduced).

iPhone 5S and 5C – 20 September in Japan

Reports suggest that Apple are preparing to launch two new iPhone models, the 5C and 5S, in Japan on 20 September, ten days after the media event.

As well as the standard black and white phones, a “champagne gold” coloured model will be available.  The 5S is reported to sport a new camera, better CPU and integrated fingerprint touch sensor in the home button.  Although not definite, 20 September runs in-line with previous product releases.

Oh, and for some reason, the Apple Store is currently down.

Apple Keynote Event?

Rumours are pointing towards a major Apple Keynote on 10th September, which could see the introduction of one or two new iPhone models, plus a confirmed date for the release of iOS7 which has so far had five betas released.
