WWDC 2012 starts here.  I’ll be bringing the latest updates from now on.  Please keep refreshing for the latest info:

  • 9to5Mac are already speculating on what’s new today: three new configuration Mac Pros, new design MacBook Pros, updated Airport Express, rebranded USB MacBook SuperDrive, and most curious of all is a newly designed MagSafe Connector, together with adaptors between old and new.  Oh, and a Thunderbolt to Ethernet Adaptor, too;
  • Pet Shop Boys have just released a new video to ‘Invisible’, and announced their new LP is called ‘Elysium’.  Here’s a LINK to the video;
  • MacWorld UK have posted some rumours about iPhone 5: tactile touch display; LiquidMetal casing; new Broadcom wireless chip and better battery life; front-facing HD camera;
  • 2.14pm – Apple Store is down;
  • MacRumors have just posted the LINK to the full Tim Cook D10 interview;
  • Hearing that the MacBook may make a comeback in a thinner Air-like form factor, with the MacBook Pro largely unchanged in the aesthetics department;
  • TechDigest’s take on the possible new MacBook Pro specs – LINK;

No surprise that the sun’s out in California!

  • There’s a report that a future Apple Television would have built-in motion detection, and the remote would be similar to an iPad;
  • WWDC attendees are being encouraged to wear black turtlenecks in memory of Steve Jobs;
  • Excellent Blog reporting possible specs of all the new Macs today – LINK;
  • The queue for Starbucks at Moscone is huge, apparently;
  • Type the word APPLE into the Twitter search box and the first couple of returned links are for Sony and Samsung mobile phones;
  • CNET say that iOS6 won’t support the original iPad or third gen iPod Touch;

  • Apple sold three million of the new iPads within three days of its release;
  • THIS website will make a noise in the background when the Apple Store comes back online;

  • Apple has removed Dropbox apps from the App Store;
  • Craig Federighi just walked into Moscone with his suit in hand.  Mountain Lion announcement ahoy!
  • Apple shares currently up 1.06% ahead of WWDC;

  • Siri now knows stuff like sport results; “what was the score of the last Arsenal game?”

  • Can look up sport schedules;
  • Restaurants, brings them up by location and sorts them in rating order;
  • Siri at the Movies: “What film is playing at the Odeon?”
  • Siri brings up the movies that are playing with artwork, lets you tap and look at ratings, reviews on Rotten Tomatoes: let’s you watch the trailer;
  • Can ask questions about actors or directors;
  • Launch apps with Siri – “Play Temple Run” opens Temple Run;
  • Can tweet, listen to notifications, get movie facts, ask about movies
  • Feature: “Eyes Free” – Siri integration with the car: working with car manufacturers to use a button on the steering wheel to bring up Siri; we don’t light up the screen of the iPhone, so you can keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road; BMW, GM, Jaguar, Mercedes, Honda; taking Siri international;
  • Adding Spanish, Mexican, French English for Canadians;

  • Facebook: Integrating into iOS6 like Twitter;
  • Post to Facebook from most apps;
  • Facebook integrates with Siri;
  • if your friends are sharing a phone number or email from Facebook, those will appear in your contact list on your iPhone;
  • Phone app enhancements: say you’re in a meeting and you can’t answer a call right then, with iOS 6, there’s a new control on the right hand side of the incoming call; two buttons: reply with a message, or be reminded to call the person back later; if you choose reply with a message, just tap an auto generated message if you want (like “I’ll call you back later”); or if you want to call them back later, you can set a time or geofence (1 hour, or when I leave the office);
  • ‘Do Not Disturb’ – tell your phone not to bother you with notifications, choose numbers that can ONLY call you;
  • FaceTime: FACETIME OVER 3G;
  • Unifying phone number and Apple ID; if someone calls your with a FaceTime message, you can reply on your Mac or iPad;
  • Photo Stream: sharing photo streams in iOS6; choose your pics, send them to friends, they get a notification;
  • Mail: VIPs; lets you mark messages from people you really want to hear from;
  • You can get lock screen notifications from VIPs;
  • VIP mailbox and flagged mailbox;
  • New: Passbook: keep all your passes in one place;
  • Location based: get to the cinema, and you ticket pops up on the screen;
  • Can includes lots of stuff in Passbook and keep it altogether;
  • When you delete something, there’s an animation of a paper shredder!
  • Walk into Starbucks, your card comes up automatically;
  • Cards are all live, so if your gate changes, your boarding pass comes up on the screen with the updated notification – neat;
  • Accessibility: keeping kids out of things you don’t want them to access;
  • Disable home button so that kids can’t ‘wander’ round the phone, and stick to the given app;
  • Ooh, MAPS!
  • NEW MAPPING SYSTEM FROM THE GROUND UP
  • Local search: invested in 100 million businesses to make great local search;
  • Traffic view: shows locals traffic, congestion etc;
  • Anonymous and real-time data to keep info fresh;
  • Quick route button;
  • Fastest route based on traffic; ETA;
  • Works from lock screen – you can even ask Siri!
  • ask Siri questions along the way: “where can I get petrol?”
  • Ask Siri “are we there yet?” and you’ll get a time estimate
  • Flyover: 3D flyover maps (lots of murmuring)
  • Zoom in for 3D, zoom back out for 2D
  • Satellite view in 3D
  • (Prolonged applause – must be good!)
  • They take the 3D renderings and overlay them on the Flyover photos;
  • Change the angles in Flyover (people blown away apparently);

  • Adaptive cinematic camera angles;
  • That’s 10 of 200 news features;
  • Lost Mode: if you’ve lost or misplaced your iPhone or iPad, you can send a phone number directly to that phone; like your home phone number or your spouse’s phone number; if someone finds it they can tap and call you back;
  • Loads of new APIs for devs;
