Pet Shop Boys: West End Girls Remixes CD *Updated 2/8/11*

Came across this today.  It’s a West End Girls CD with a number of remixes, as well as the original version of the song.  I’d not heard of any ‘Montreal Mixes’ before, but there are four on this CD, plus three other tracks.

Tracklisting

  1. West End Girls (Acid House Mix)
  2. West End Girls (James Brown Mix)
  3. West End Girls (Original Version)
  4. West End Girls (Montreal 12″)
  5. West End Girls (Montreal Instrumental)
  6. West End Girls (Montreal Dub)
  7. West End Girls (Montreal 7″)

Despite there fact there are seven remixes (some of which are unspeakable), there appear to be lyrics I’ve not heard in the song before.  Here’s the lyrics to the Montreal 7″ version.  I’ve highlighted the different lyrics in red.

Sometimes you’re better off dead
There’s gun in your hand and it’s pointing at your head
You think you’re mad, too unstable
Kicking in chairs and knocking down tables
In a restaurant in a West End town
Call the police, there’s a madman around
Running down underground to a dive bar
In a West End town

In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
West End girls

Too many shadows, whispering voices
Faces on posters, too many choices
If, when, why, what?
How much have you got?
Have you got it, do you get it, if so, how often
And which do you choose, a hard or soft option?
Looking left, turning right,
‘Cos money’s short and time is tight.

In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
West End girls.

I’ve said it all before, I’ll say it all again,
We’re all modern men
We’ve got no future, we’ve got no past
Here today, built to last
In every city in every nation
From Lake Geneva to the Flnland Station
If we could find the right solution
Will there be a revolution?

In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
West End girls.

You’ve got a heart of glass and a heart of stone
Just you wait ‘til I get you home.
All your stoppin’, stallin’ and starting
Who d’you think you are, Joe Stalin?
Sometimes you’re better off dead
There’s a gun in your hand
And it’s pointing at your head.
(Sometimes you’re better off dead
there’s a gun in your hand
and it’s pointing at your head).

In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
West End girls.
West End girls.

(Repeat to fade).

*UPDATE 2/8/11*

If you’re curious to hear it, then you can.  I’ve noticed that a number of you have been searching for the 12″ Montreal version, and previously I had only upped the 7″ Mix.  But now, here, in all its original stereo glory, is the 12″ Montreal Version
