Mid-Week Roundup

  • Intel are to release more information about Light Peak tomorrow (Thursday), same day as the supposed announcement of new MacBook Pro models;
  • Sixth Beta of OSX 10.6.7 has no known faults;
  • The MacBook Pros are said to include a 16GB SSD for faster booting; the white polycarbonate MacBook will be discontinued completely;
  • Apple’s Genius Support may extend to small business, in something called ‘Joint Venture’;
  • iTunes is rumoured to adopt 24-bit music files; nobody knows quite why;
  • More rumours say that iPhone 5 announcement will be delayed until September;
  • Final Cut Pro will get a “dramatic and ambitious” update sometime next Spring, ‘the biggest update since original version was created over 10 years ago’;
  • OSX Lion developer Beta seeing should start happening any time now, and it’s rumoured that the UI will get an overhaul from the one Steve Jobs showed the world last year;

Those new MacBook Pros are rumoured to have the following specs:

  • 8GB RAM on the 17″ model;
  • Better battery life: 12 hours on the 13″, 10 hours on the 15″;
  • 200-300g lighter;
  • HD displays on all models: 1440×900 on the 13″, 1680×1050 on the 15″;
  • Option to replace superdrive with SSD on all models;
  • Matte screen option on the better 13″ model;
  • Core i3 and third USB port on the 13″ model;
  • 16GB SSD mSATA drives on all models to store the OS;
  • Possibility of Light Peak technology onboard.
